Partnership Between Laïta & bioMérieux - Case study using the Augmented Diagnostics Approach

February, 2024 — 9 min read

Infant formula

Introduction

Laïta, one of France's largest dairy cooperatives, is behind some of France's best-known dairy products, from Paysan Breton butter to Mamie Nova yoghurts.

The aim: to detect, monitor and investigate at every step of the infant formula production process in order to minimize the risk of contamination

Find out in this video series how bioMérieux is helping this key player in Europe using our Augmented Diagnostics Approach to go beyond test results (Scroll to the bottom of the page to watch the entire video).

1. Understanding germ origins for decision-making

To better understand how and when bacteria appeared on the production line, Laïta uses bioMérieux's genotyping solution, which maps the genomes of each individual germ to help the team understand where the germ came from and make effective decisions quickly

“GENOTYPING ALLOWS US TO KNOW OUR ENEMY VERY WELL, SO THAT WE CAN QUICKLY AND EFFECTIVELY DESTROY IT.”

FABIENNE RABET (NUTRITION QUALITY MANAGER - LAÏTA)

2. Targeting bacteria at source by mapping the plant

Thanks to whole genome sequencing, Laïta now has access to a complete dataset of identified strains, enabling to identify similarities between strains, to help its experts treat the root cause of the strain. Laita then uses ENVIROMAP® to map its plant in order to see the evolution of strains in the production facility

“THIS SOLUTION ALLOWS US TO TREAT THE ROOT CAUSE WITH MORE EFFICIENCY AND CHECK THAT A SPECIAL STRAIN HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY ELIMINATED”

AYMÉRIC DE CUSSAC (INFANT MILK PRODUCTION MANAGER - LAÏTA)

3. A predictive approach rather than a corrective approach

By mapping the context of each case, Laïta is able to build an encyclopedia of how each strain has reacted to different biocide and temperature treatments. This helps it to find quick and efficient solutions, tackling the root cause of each case as soon as possible, while preventing future cases

“GENOTYPING DATA HELPS US TO USE A PREDICTIVE APPROACH RATHER THAN A CORRECTIVE APPROACH. IT'S MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE AND WE HAVE A MUCH BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IS HAPPENING".”

GILLES LEROUVILLOIS (PLANT DIRECTOR - LAÏTA CRÉHEN)
